Kannada actor Ranya Rao has been found gulity in gold smuggling case and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have imposed Rs.102 crore fine on her. The popular actor was caught with 14.8 Kg of gold on 3rd March at Kempegowda Bengaluru Airport. 

DRI officials have served notices to her and few other co-conspirators a 2500-page notice and Rs.50 crore fine for others. Ranya Rao and others are in jail, they have been asked to pay the fine otherwise their properties will be attached. The actor has alleged that DRI officials have slapped her multiple times to confess. 

But she had been caught red-handed with the gold jewellery. Also, her frequent flights to Dubai, 52 times, in between 2023 till early 2025 have come under the scanner. Her husband Jatin Hukkeri sought legal relief citing that he and Ranya have separated in December 2024, itself.
