Salman Khan is facing heavy criticism for his latest song, Teri Sexy Beauty, from his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi. The actor has crooned the track alongside Muskaan, while Chitrangda Singh features opposite him in the music video.
Despite Salman's massive popularity, the song failed to attract even 700K views on YouTube in its first 10 hours. The response has been disappointing, with criticism directed at Salman's singing, the composition and the overall quality of the track.
Interestingly, Himesh Reshammiya, who has composed other songs for the film, is also associated with its soundtrack, while Sajid Khan is credited with composing and writing Teri Sexy Beauty. The song's tune and Salman's vocal delivery have drawn criticism, with listeners questioning whether the track has enough musical appeal. His return to playback singing after 11 years, following Main Hoon Hero Tera, has not generated the response the makers might have expected.
More importantly, the inclusion of such a flirtatious party number in a war drama has raised eyebrows. Maatrubhumi, previously titled Battle of Galwan, is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
With Salman portraying an Army officer, the lyrics revolving around 'sexy beauty' and 'two pegs down' appear completely disconnected from the film's serious subject. The contrast has prompted questions about the makers' decision to incorporate such a song into the narrative.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi has already undergone changes, including a title change and reported reshoots. With its theatrical release date yet to be confirmed, the criticism surrounding Teri Sexy Beauty has added to the film's challenges. Whether the song finds acceptance over time remains to be seen.
