Mohanlal's highly anticipated thriller Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, has taken the worldwide box office by storm on its opening day. Despite opening to mixed reviews regarding its pacing, the return of the mastermind Georgekutty generated massive audience interest, resulting in a phenomenal first-day worldwide gross of Rs 43.37 crore.
In India, the film collected a solid Rs 15.85 crore net across 5,506 shows, taking the domestic gross to Rs 18.37 crore. Unsurprisingly, the Malayalam version contributed the highest numbers, earning Rs 13.70 crore net with an impressive 67 percent theatre occupancy. Kerala emerged as the strongest territory with a gross of Rs 11.15 crore, while the Telugu and Tamil versions chipped in with Rs 1.50 crore and Rs 0.45 crore net respectively.
The international markets also showed immense love for the franchise, pulling in a massive Rs 25 crore gross overseas. The intense emotional connection audiences share with this decade-old family thriller has clearly overpowered the initial critical reception, giving the film a true blockbuster start that sets a strong foundation for its opening weekend.
