The trailer of GDN, based on the life of legendary inventor G.D. Naidu, has been unveiled, offering a detailed glimpse into the biographical period drama. Headlined by R. Madhavan, the film also stars Priyamani, Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Yogi Babu, Vinay Rai, Dushara Vijayan, and Thambi Ramaiah in key roles. Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the film chronicles the life and struggles of the man often referred to as the "Edison of India."
The three-minute-plus trailer traces G.D. Naidu's journey from his younger days to his battle against the British establishment. Madhavan looks convincing in the younger portions, capturing the energy and determination of the inventor. However, his old-age makeover doesn't feel entirely convincing, with the prosthetic look appearing slightly artificial in a few shots.
Despite packing several incidents from Naidu's life, the trailer doesn't quite find a defining hook that leaves a lasting impact. It stretches for over three minutes but struggles to build the kind of emotional or dramatic high point that instantly pulls audiences into the film.
That said, the narrative itself remains interesting. The trailer promises an engaging period drama that explores not just the British Raj, but also how Indians working closely with the colonial rulers created obstacles for one of their own.
This conflict, coupled with G.D. Naidu's relentless pursuit of innovation, could make for an entertaining and thought-provoking cinematic experience. With a compelling historical backdrop and an accomplished ensemble, GDN still has the ingredients to deliver an engaging biographical drama when it arrives on 17th July, in theatres.
