Assam Violence: Home Minister on Two-day Visit

In wake of the unprecedented Assam violence, the Uninion Home Minister P Chidambaram is on a two-day visit to the state. He reached the violence-hit Kokrajhar in Assam and will take stock of the situation. BJP leader LK Advani is also expected to visit Kokrajhar today.

Nellore Train Fire Accident: 30 to 50 Suspected Dead

Major fire broke out in S11 coach of Nizamuddin-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express near Nellore early this morning around 4.22 AM. The train has no stoppage at Nellore and the fiore was noticed while it was passing the Nellore station. The death toll may be any number between 30 to 50, say the rescue teams. Preliminary investigations suggest short circuit as the cause of the fire.

Broken Railway Track Detected: Trains Detained

Several express trains were detained at Bhongir after broken track was detected near Wangapalli railway station this morning. Alert gangmen who were inspecting the track early this morning found a piece of rail track broken between Bhongir and Wangapalli stations, minutes before the arrival of AP Express. They immediately informed officials at Bhongir station and averted what could have been a major mishap.

CM Srikakulam Tour Second Day

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy's Srikakulam district tour has entered second day on Saturday. He started his second day tour from Malee village in Seethampet mandal in the district. From here, he will fly in a helicopter to reach Pathapatnam, where he will be ineracting with handloom weavers. Later, he will proceed to Ramakrishanapuram to meet cashew nut farmers.

Court Convicts Minister Pardhasaradhi

The Economic Offences Special Court at Nampally has convicted the state Secondary & Intermediate Education Minister K Pardhasaradhi with two months imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,15,000/- on KPR Tele Products Company, of which Pardhasaradhi was managing director earlier. In the event, the company doesn't pay the fine amount, the minister Pardhasaradhi has to undergo imprisonment for a period of another ten years.
