Pawan Kalyan's OG Canada exhibitor make huge accusations
Updated : Sep 23, 2025
Pawan Kalyan's upcoming film, OG, has sky-high expectations and the movie has already created huge pre-sales record in North America. But the record numbers for first day and weekend will face issues as big chain of cinemas, York Cinemas, from Canada have stated that they are withdrawing from exhibiting it.
York Cinemas have released a press note stating that they might face potential risk with public safety and security as cultural and political forces are too powerful. They have stated that they started refunding the ticket amounts to people. They reiterated that safety of patrons, employees and public will be their priority.
They went on to accuse distributor of OG have artifically inflated sales numbers to increase economic value of future of South Asian Films. York Cinemas do not encourage such malpractices and unethical business practices. They even stated that the distributor has made false allegations against their financial details.
Well, York Cinemas seem to have levelled their allegations against Prathyangira Cinemas. Currently, NA distributor has confirmed that Tamil version won't be releasing and only Telugu and Hindi language versions will release due to content delays. Sujeeth is directing the film, and DVV Danayya is producing it.
York Cinemas official statement reads:
We regret to inform you that York Cinemas has made the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming exhibitions of the film "They call him OG". York Cinemas has become increasingly concerned that various cultural and political forces associated with the distribution of the film in North America could pose a potential risk to public safety and security. We sincerely apologize to our patrons for any inconvenience this may cause. Any patrons who have purchased tickets in advance will be refunded in full. The safety of our patrons, employees and the public remains our top priority.
York Cinemas has previously faced requests by individuals affiliated with the distributor of OG in North America to artificially inflate sales numbers to increase the economic value of future OG South Asian films. This was apparently done in an effort by such individuals to gain greater control over the South Asian film industry in North America. These individuals also appear to be creating a cultural divide in South Asian communities based on social standing and political affiliations. York Cinemas refuses to engage in unethical business practices and supports and encourages all groups within the South Asian community to flourish.
In addition, the distributor and/or its associates have made false statements to certain online media in India regarding York Cinema's financial arrangements, responsibilities or obligations in relation to South Asian films. York Cinemas unequivocally denies the accuracy of such statements and will seek appropriate remedies against those responsible for conveying false information.
