Is 7/G Brudhavan Colony 2 an unnecessary sequel?
Updated : Jan 2, 2025
7/G Brudhavan Colony became a cult blockbuster with everlasting melodies and heartwarming screenplay. Now, the makers have announced a sequel for the film, 7/G Brudhavan Colony 2 and released a poster on New Year Day. But the movie did not build any huge buzz or anticipation after the update.
The movie feels a forced sequel rather than organically, the story of the first one being continued. It could be a film that takes similar characters and tell a new story but it is 2 decades too late, one feels so. The movie has cult following and status but that is not enough for it to continue.
In any case, the kind of reception it got on the social media is also very negligible. The movie seems a product of forced interests of the producer AM Rathnam to give his son, Ravi Krishna, another chance at finding success at the box office than it really deserving to become a franchise.
Indian 2 just became an example of how a sequel for a 27 years old can go wrong and find low amount of acceptance, if it fails to live up to original. With Selva Raghavan not finding, the same level of box office acceptance for his latest films, would it be clever to go for a sequel of a cult film?
It seems like more or less, a desperate attempt at trying to use the good name of the original to find a success at the box office for the director and actor. But there are reports of the leading actor and director being at loggerheads on the sets. Let's hope it won't end up as Indian 2 kind of a forgettable experience.
