The sheer energy & enthusiasm of the participants was so infectious that the passing onlookers couldn’t resist joining FlashMob in spite of pouring rain. Several participants mentioned that this FlashMob is first of its kind in the Bay Area.

Union Square is historically a sight-seeing place in the middle of San Francisco downtown with large shopping malls around. With heavy rain pouring in the afternoon on March 24th, there were over 100 participants wearing traditional Indian outfits (sarees, salwar, kurti, and Kurta) appeared spontaneously in public, and performed dances to various popular songs from Indian music that provided entertainment, awareness and kick-off to the BATA 40th Anniversary promotion. The highlight being the resound of ‘Telugu jathi manadi..” in the historical square and the beautiful way it was presented. The passing by shoppers and pedestrians saw something unique and energetic Indian dances, and could not resist stopping by and joining the dances in spite of the rain.

Vijaya Aasuri and Srinvias Kolli of BATA later explained to the gathering that this FlashMob was organized as a curtain raiser and a kick-off for the upcoming 40th Anniversary of BATA to be held on April 7, 2012 at the Flint Center for Performing Arts, Cupertino, California. Vijaya Aasuri and Srinvias Kolli appealed all to attend the event on April 7, 2012 to witness and enjoy a spectacular cultural extravaganza showcasing 40 years of BATA cultural and community services.
