Updated : Sep 18, 2025

In a surprising turn of events, actress Deepika Padukone will not be returning for the highly anticipated sequel to her blockbuster Telugu debut, Kalki 2898 AD. Padukone's portrayal in the film alongside Prabhas was met with widespread critical and audience acclaim, making her departure a shock to many fans. The reason is stated to be her unreasonable demands like she asked for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit.

The news report was officially confirmed by the production house, Vyjayanthi Movies, via a tweet on their official X account.

The tweet reads:
"This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD.
After careful consideration, We have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership.
And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works."

Director Nag Ashwin is reportedly hard at work on the script for the sequel. The first film was a massive global success, grossing a staggering Rs. 1100 crores worldwide. Further announcements about the sequel's cast and plot are expected from the makers soon.
