Coolie has created huge buzz as it marks Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj coming together for the first time ever. Adding to the enormous buzz - King Nagarjuna joined as antagonist for the first time ever in this film. Also, Rajini completed 50 Years of his acting career and it marks a grand celebration of his career, too. Upendra, Aamir Khan doing cameos in this film makes it even more special. Let's discuss about the film, in detail. 

Plot: 

Rajasekhar (Satyaraj) is murdered by someone and his friend, family member Deva (Rajinikanth) starts investigating why.  Rajasekhar's daughters, mainly elder one Preeti (Shruti Haasan), hates Deva and his involvement. Even though he is her uncle. Still, Deva finds a way to investigate. 

As Kingpin Simon (Nagarjuna) and his head of henchmen Dayalan (Soubin Shahir) look for Rajasekhar's invention to electrocute dead bodies. Already Rajasekhar had been working for them, so Deva joins them along with Preeti. Why Simon needs this invention? What is Dayalan hiding? Will Deva find out the Rajasekhar's killer and reason? Analysis: 

Superstar Rajinikanth entertains with a tailor-made role for him. He is charismatic, looks good and his aura is magnetic. Even in younger portions, with the help of AI, he did his best. King Nagarjuna looked good in a villainous role. He is able to bring his swag and style to the forefront in a different manner. 

Soubin Shahir got a huge role among all and he did give his best. He is scary and performed ruthlessly in a character that demands more physical agility too. Aamir Khan's cameo is underwhelming while Upendra performed well. Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram are good while Satyaraj did his good. 

Lokesh Kanagaraj is good in building tension in scenes that seem very normal to commercial films that follow mass template. He brings something new to the table and has a talent to present it in fresh perspective. While he did execute well several scenes, there are few unnecessary drags that undermine the film's impact. 

Still, watching such a huge ensemble cast in different roles and their conversations does make it worth it. Action sequences does pack a punch and he keeps audiences engaged. Keep expectations in check as Lokesh did not serve another Vikram but a Rajinikanth film in his style. 

Bottomline: 

Action packed film with a middling storyline but strong execution.
