Updated : Sep 4, 2025

The cinematic landscape of India, particularly in Telugu cinema, is experiencing a remarkable trend: the re-release of popular films. As classics like Pokiri and Jalsa, and many more, have drawn massive crowds back to theaters for nostalgic viewings and special celebrations, a global phenomenon is now following suit. James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, India’s highest-grossing Hollywood film, is set to return to theaters on October 2, 2025.

This re-release is a strategic move by 20th Century Studios, timed perfectly to build hype for the highly anticipated sequel, Avatar: Fire & Ash, releasing on December 19. For one week, audiences will have the chance to revisit Pandora in immersive 3D, a day ahead of its re-release in the US, highlighting the film's immense popularity in India. The remarkable thing in this re-release is that it will be releasing for just a week in theatres helping audiences to reprise their memories of watching an Avatar film in theatres.

Well, the Indian re-releases have shown that the theatrical experience is far from over. Avatar: The Way of Water’s return is not just a reminder of its Oscar-winning visual spectacle but also a testament to the power of the big-screen experience, proving that a truly great film can draw audiences back to theaters time and again, just like a beloved regional classic.
