Home  »  Gossip  »  KHxRK OTT Deal: A Shocking Reality Check

Updated : Apr 29, 2026

In what can only be described as a massive shocker for the South Indian film trade, the digital rights for the historic Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth collaboration are facing an unexpected hurdle. When this monumental project was announced, the industry naturally assumed that streaming giants would be falling over themselves to secure the rights.

Trade circles were confidently predicting a record-breaking deal anywhere between 200 to 250 crores, given that these two cinema titans are sharing the screen after decades. However, the latest buzz sending ripples through the industry is that top OTT platforms are currently playing hardball with the makers.

Reportedly, the highest offers currently on the table are hovering only around the 105 to 125 crore mark. This is practically half of what the producers and the trade experts originally anticipated. This sudden tightening of purse strings reflects a massive reality check and a major shift in OTT buying strategies.

Streaming platforms are clearly no longer willing to throw blank checks purely based on legendary casting combinations and initial hype. This shocking development has reportedly left the makers in a tough spot. It remains to be seen if the producers will settle for these drastically reduced numbers or hold off negotiations in hopes that the buzz closer to release will force the platforms to revise their bids.
