Updated : Apr 22, 2026

Suriya's highly anticipated film Karuppu is facing unexpected hurdles due to a growing financial dispute involving the production powerhouse Hombale Films. The core issue traces back to the regional distribution of the blockbuster KGF Chapter 2 in Tamil Nadu.

Producer SR Prabhu was expected to pay Rs 12 crores to Hombale Films from the distribution profits. While a portion of this amount was cleared, a balance of Rs 5.5 crores has been kept pending over time.

Due to the ongoing delay, Hombale Films is reportedly considering taking the matter to court to recover their dues. Meanwhile, Karuppu has already experienced a frustrating delay of eight months, and the makers are currently eyeing a May 14th release date to finally yield some much-needed profits.

If Hombale proceeds with the legal route, the resulting complications could affect the release of several other major upcoming projects, including Akhanda 2 and Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyar. Despite the current tension surrounding Karuppu, Suriya's subsequent film, Viswanath and Sons, is safely locked in for an August release.
