Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh starrer Suzhal The Vortex, web series, has become a huge hit upon release in 2022. After three years, the second season of the series has started streaming from 28th February 2025. It released with huge amount of expectations as the first season garnered good following over the years, since its release. Let's see how the new season fares in comparison to the first one.
Plot:
SI "Sakkarai" Chakravarthy (Kathir) is under duress in the department as his service revolver has been used to kill by Nandini (Aishwarya Rajesh), in season first ending. Now, Nandini is arrested in jail and Advocate Chellappa (Lal) is arguing her case in the court. But Chellappa is found dead and Muthu (Gouri G. Kishan) is accused as killer. But seven other girls come forward claiming they did the murder. Chakravarthy has to find the real culprit. Watch the series to know more.
Analysis:
The series talked about sexual abuse within the house and highlighted trauma that leaves behind in a girl's heart. With investigation into the drama, the series explored how it is easy to misinterpret clues and people by their behavior. The second season though starts off on a big high doesn't have similar shock value. It is again a slow burn but it doesn't reach to the level of intensity it did in the first towards the climax.
We are left with an ending that we could predict in the fourth episode itself, being justified through out the next episodes. This aspect brings down the overall effect of the case and narrative becomes too lethargic. Still, the first four episodes offer solid writing and execution that is even tighter than the first season. The theme of abuse continues but we get different aspects into the same.
At times it gives a feeling of watching the same story being told with more characters but the writing holds the interest through for the first four. The execution is good yet again and performances of Kathir, Manjima Mohan stand out. This can be stated as a good come back by Manjima after a hiatus. Aishwarya Rajesh gets sidelined a little bit but the overall arching growth of the character is good. The performances of all actors are apt for the tone the series is going for.
Emotionally though, it lacks the same gut wrenching punch that the first one offered. Sam CS background score, cinematography, production values are again good. Just the writing could have offered much more than it actually did. We recommend it as a one-time watch with lowered expectations if you are a fan of the first season.
In Conclusion:
An underwhelming yet watchable season 2.
Rating: 2.5/5
