Akshay Kumar, the Bollywood Superstar has lose his sheen post Covid, with majority of his films becoming disasters. Now, the actor has come up with Sky Force. Veer Pahariya, grandson of famnous poltician, Shushil Kumar Shinde is debuting with this film. Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur are playing leading lady roles in the film. Stree 2 producer Dinesh Vijan, who announced his ambitious Horror Cinematic Universe, produced the film. Let's discuss about the film that released for Republic Day weekend, in detail.
Plot:
Om Ahuja (Akshay Kumar), an interpid Indian Air Force Officier, is the mentor of young pilot Krishna Vijaya (Veer Pahariya). While Krishna is a hot head who listens to just his heart and doesn't obey commands, Om Ahuja is more level headed. The films follows first airstrike on the Sargodha airbase in Pakistan during the India - Pakistan war in 1965. What is connection between these two characters and the airstrike? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Maddock Films has made a name for themselves to give quality films, no matter what is the story. Sky Force is set to bring an under-explored Air Force attack during the 1965 war. While the story is based on real events, the film tries to give a big onus to patriotic sentiments and tries to play the desh bhakti card as well. The story does try to elevate the heroes but then has little meat for them to really do.
Akshay Kumar is good in this role and his performance can be counted as his most honest portrayal in recent times. But as the hype suggests Veer Pahariya is not as good as many trying to portray him to be. He is decent and needs a lot more amount of time and grooming to really shine. The problem with this film is that it wants to be an epic saga yet at writing level itself it is just at best a decent action film.
Execution wise too, it has many flaws with its VFX and set design being sub-par. Still, they are good for the budget and does an okay job. The problem once again lies in over hyping the content and asking us to see it as a masterpiece. It is a decent film with a good performance from Akshay Kumar at best. The young couple of actors - Sara Ali Khan and Veer Pahariya are not that good as the film needs them to be.
It needs the performances to be top class and even some more emphasis on authenticity on the operations. It does have grounded scenes and a slightly realistic approach to few Air Force related details but it is only engaging but not a piece of cinema that we need to watch at all costs. It is a decent attempt at bringing a lesser known war fact on to the big screen. You can watch it once, if you like such war based films.
In Conclusion:
Not ground-breaking but decent and patchy at best.
Rating: 2.5/5
