Vikram Review: Don't miss this Adrenaline Pumping experience
Updated : Jun 3, 2022
While most Tamil film industry stalwarts have failed to make a significant national impact with thier movies, Kamal Haasan's Vikram has become the lone source of solace and assurance for the entire K-Town. Of course, with a slew of potential stars from the South Industry in the cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Suriya, and a few other well-known names, expectations skyrocketed.
Furthermore, filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj's past hits served as yet another adornment for the project. So, let's see how well Vikram has done in terms of brownie points.
Story:
The story revolves around a series of murders happening in the city, and the victims are an honest police officer Prapanchan (Kalidas Jayaram), and his adopted father Karnan (Kamal Haasan), who are killed one after the other. The police department brings an undercover agent Amar (Fahadh Faasil) to investigate, and this is where the ultimate game begins that leads to unexpected paths and revelations.
Analysis:
The major point that every audience will notice and appreciate about 'Vikram' is the effort that went into writing it. The film is a character-driven plot, as the title 'Vikram' suggests, with more emphasis on the protagonist's character. At the same time, the film erases the myth that stars such as Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, and Suriya were featured solely for their names and as a crowd-puller aspect.
Kudos to filmmakers Rathna Kumar and Lokesh Kanagaraj for pouring their hearts and souls into each and every character. Their literary method in combining the premise of their previous film Kaithi with Vikram is brilliant. We don't want to divulge anything since it would be a spoiler.
The extremely well-written characterizations are a huge draw. In fact, the duo had followed the same technique in their last film, 'Master,' where the antagonist's character was also described in detail from beginning to end.
Similarly, we can tell that all of the characters in this film are very intense. The trailer gives the impression that it's an out-and-out action thriller, but the emotional content dominates a lot, justifying the high-octane action and violence, or else it'd be a simply generic action drama.
Performances:
When it comes to performance, there is no need to evaluate Kamal Haasan's spell because he simply leaves you awestruck at times. Lokesh Kanagaraj has clearly made this film a fanboy moment for Kamal Haasan, and he has justified it with every frame, especially in the action sequences. Then, with his great emotional approach, Kamal Haasan knocks us off our feet.
Vijay Sethupathi is the next person to catch our eye. He has fully altered his performance paradigm to a different domain. It is clear that he made this decision on purpose. Everything about him appears to be amazing, from his body language to his facial emotions. However, many believe that they become repetitive after a certain point.
Fahadh Faasil had an easy time with this part. In reality, this role means nothing to him, and he nonchalantly displays his capacity. Not to be overlooked is Narain's screen presence, which has done full credit to his depiction. Because his character is a spin-off from the preceding one, he is the direct link between Kaithi and Vikram. Suriya's surprise appearance was one of the most anticipated moments, and we'll let you decide how it fared.
Three big scenes that cause cinemas to explode in utter awe
Intermission moment that brings all characters together.
The surprise character Teena
Climax with an open ending that merges Kaithi with Vikram.
Technicalities:
Anirudh's BGM proves to be the most valuable asset in keeping the high-octane action blocks and emotional passages on track. Girish Gangadharan's cinematography is the crowning achievement. With his cinematography, he has created a visually stunning experience. Anbariv stunts and action choreography makes everyone adrenaline pumping.
More details than this would constitute a spoiler. Lokesh Kanagaraj has very well accomplished his universe of heroes and other characters in 'Vikram,' and it is truly a one-of-a-kind experience for the entire Indian audience.
Verdict:
Gripping, stylish, and enthralling! A special treat for fans of action movies.
