Delhi HC dismisses copyright violation case against ARR

AR Rahman challenged copyright violation case against him in Delhi High Court. Ustad Dagar has moved to court against ARR claiming that his compostion, Veera Raja Veera, from Ponniyin Selvan 1, has been inspired from his Shiva Stuti. Single Judge has ruled in favour of Ustad and fined ARR to pay Rs.2 crores in compensation.
Madras Talkies, one producer of the film and AR Rahman have decided to move to Delhi High Court and the two judge bench has decided to give stay on single judge judgement. They have stated that the single judge has erred in judging Dagar brothers who performed the composition as composers.
They opined that if a person who performs a composition can be qualified as composer, then they should re-wrtie the copyright law and this cannot be termed as a violation. With such orders Delhi High Court has relieved AR Rahman from copyright violation case.
Ponniyin Selvan I and Ponniyin Selvan II have become huge blockbusters with cumulative gross of Rs.845 crores at the worldwide box office. Mani Ratnam directed this magnum opus based on Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan novel. Lyca Productions produced the film with Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Ravi Mohan, Trisha Krishnan in ensemble cast.
