AP govt passes New G.O with revised ticket Prices
Updated : Mar 8, 2022
The Andhra Pradesh government has issued directives for revised ticket rates and a few rules related to ticket pricing, putting an end to a months-long debate over movie ticket rates in the state, with few exceptions for small and high-budget films. Many Telugu film industry members, as well as theatre owners and distributors in Andhra Pradesh, had objected to the state government's prior ticket fee reductions in April 2021. Following an order from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to form a committee to investigate the issue, and multiple meetings between members of the film industry, including Chiranjeevi, and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, a new Government Order (GO) was issued on March 7 by the state Home Department.
Multiplex ticket costs in municipal corporations are set at Rs 150, while single screen ticket prices are capped at Rs 125.
If 20% of the shooting takes place in Andhra Pradesh, big budget films would be eligible for a preferable rate. However, the production expenditures alone should exceed Rs 100 crores, and remunerations cannot be taken into account.
From now on, there will be no more benefit shows in Andhra Pradesh. The recently enacted 5th show regulation is equally complicated. Four of the five shows every day will be for blockbuster films, while the fifth should be for small films with a budget of less than Rs 20 crores.
Theatres have been reclassified into four categories — Non-AC, AC, Special theatres, and Multiplexes. Each of them are again categorised into non-premium and premium. As per the earlier order, the theatre types were —Multiplex, AC/Air Cool and non-AC.
In an encouraging development, the government has permitted ticket price hikes and also 5th shows for Radhe Shyam and RRR.
