Sunil (Prabhu Deva) lives with his doting (but kinda senti) brother Sarath Kumar, who is a local rowdy. Now Sunil is a short-tempered guy who easily gets into fights (and very well choreographed ones at that!). As a result of this, he gets kicked out of his medical college, but with his brother's influence, he manages admission into another. There he promptly falls in love with the very beautiful Sunitha (Jelaaseel - of the Sunrise ad fame). She instantly reciprocates his love, and they sing a couple of duets in the Nilgiris. Now Sunitha's sister (Ishwarya) has a husband who, after taking a lot of money from some bad guys, plans to marry off Sunitha to a very ugly goon. Sunitha immediately calls up Sunil and asks him to come and save her. But the next day, which is the day of the marriage, he turns up late. And so, to save her sister from the clutches of the evil goon, Ishwarya commits suicide. Sunitha blames all this on Sunil, and leaves him hating him with every breath. She takes her sister's daughter and goes away.
Analysis :
After a long break the magical dancer is back with another film, though a dubbed one from Tamil. The movie is a typical sentimental potboiler that is very common in the South-Indian film industry, but what sets it slightly apart from run-of-the-mill stuff is the different treatment given to a very ordinary story. And one more interesting aspect of the film is the location of the songs. Most of them have been shot in the beautiful Nilgiris, and the locales are absolutely stunning. You have to see the movie to experience the beauty.
TeluguOne Perspective :
The movie is pretty good on the whole. The comedy track by Vivek, Dhanu and Vayapuri is funny, and despite a lot of unnecessary sentiment and melodrama, the movie never gets boring. The acting is nothing special, though. Jelaaseel looks absolutely ravishing. The music is pretty good, with a couple of very good songs. On the technical side, the dubbing should have been more professional.
