Opening scene establishes that murali (jagapati) is an orphan. he deeply> loves shalini (heera) who is a chorus singer in keeravani's troup,followed by a teasing song, but she doesn't resiprocate. Her ambition is to become a big singer like alisha etc., and says to hero that she doesn't love him and hero is after her because she thinks hero is after her for lust and not for love. murali says that it is true love and from now on he doesn't meet her as long as she doesn't recognises his love for her and wait for her until she takes the first step towards him. murali meets his childhood classmate mahalaxmi (koushalaya) after third encounter she tells him that she loved madhu (abbas) (good song)and as her parents are trying to get engaged to someother person to escape from that, she says that she is already married to madhu. And the same day madhu dies in an accident. while she is telling this flash black it will be midnight and police arrest them thinking as lovers. To escape from police Murali tells they are husband and wife, as when police comes to enquire about the relationship giribabu will be waiting for mahalaxmi to take the new couple to village. Mahalaxmi requests murali to act as her husband for time being until she gets her papers to leave for USA. after some persuation he agrees and goes to village. There he is greeted with all of family members of Mahalaxmi. seeing so many relatives he feels and get attached to them with another song. But then he realises that one day he has to leave that place, so acts negitively but all his acts are taken as positively and he is appreciated for them.Murali and mahi starts liking for each other followed by two songs. madhu's parents comes into scene and advise murali to get married to madhu and mahi's granny (ramaprabha) over hears this and plays a heart attack drama and asks mahi's father (nazar) to get married to them again tradationally. Murali refuses but rama prabha revels that she knows the truth and make them agreed to get married. Mean while Shalini starts to feel love for Murali and followed by a song she comes in search of murali on the wedding day of murali and mahi, after little drama and misunderstanding murali and mahi gets married whil shalini doing tyagam.
