It looks like this is the end of top comedian
Updated : Dec 22, 2015
It looks like Tollywood’s most celebrated comedian of this generation is now slowly losing his fame. If you are fan of Telugu movies, you must have guessed his name. Yes, he is none other than our very own Brahmanandam. Sad, but it indeed looks like end of his era. Those who have seen the best of his comedy can easily see his downfall in recent days.
His roles in past few years carried a similar flavor of comedy that failed to create laughter. Directors still create roles, only to include him in the cast. But is he doing justice to their trust? Many in the industry don’t think so.
Once known as the king of comedy, now he is confining himself to boring and routine characters. It’s been a long time since we all saw finest comedy from Brahmi. We no longer have that pure comedy. All we see today is, a Brahmi who gets slapped even by a B grade actor. The audience can take it, if it is for once or twice. But he must realize that, no trick works for longer duration in this generation.
Though he continues to get roles even today, he is unable to make a difference. There was a time, when directors wrote separate comedy tracks for him. He was an asset to movies. That was also the time when we had top comedians like Babu Mohan, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Ali, AVS, MS Narayana, Mallikharujn and Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam. Despite the tough competition, Brahmi managed to entertain. Because there was a variation in his roles and the mannerism.
Adding to his worries, now young comedians are making their way to success. Emerging funny men like Saptagiri, Dhanraj, Shakalaka Shankar and Prabhas Seenu are now most sought after comedians in the industry. Brahmi’s star status is also scaring the producers to approach him. Instead of paying lot of money to him, they can hire two upcoming comedians. Unlike Brahmi, these youngsters are easy to handle for the directors.
There is now doubt that Brahmanandam is one of the finest comedians that Tollywood ever had produced. But everything that grows, has to fall one day. Sadly, it appears like we are witnessing the fall of a legendary comedian. If he doesn’t change himself with the changing generation, the time will pass, so does the opportunities. If he wants to make a comeback, he must get out of his routine roles and do some genuine comedy. Shouting and getting slapped will not work anymore.
