Kolkata and Hyderabad seems to have fallen for the dazzle of diamonds because of the stupendous growth in sale of diamond jewellery leaving behind Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, according to Diamond Trading Corporation.

Diamond jewellery sales in Kolkata and Hyderabad have registered growth of 31 percent, Mumbai 20 percent, Delhi 16 percent and Chennai 21 percent whereas the national average stands at 21 percent. Growth recorded in the two metros is due to increase in stocking capacity and demand for diamonds, according to officials of DTC India.

Total jewellery market in India is around Rs80, 000 crore of which Kolkata and Hyderabad each constitute about 15 percent or Rs1200 crore. Market for diamond is estimated at around Rs9500 crore.
