‘Jagadananda Karaka’ from Sri Rama Rajyam movie, composed by Maestro Ilayaraja, written by Jonnavithhula Ramalingeswara Rao and sung by S.P.Balasubrahmanyam and Shreya Ghoshal. Sri Rama Rajyam is a devotional film based on the epic ‘Ramayana’ and it was the legendary Bapu's final directorial venture. The way Bapu created this visual and musical delight is extraordinary and it is a film that can give you an enriching experience & reminds our ancient culture, heritage and values. All the directors have their own style of direction and similarly, Bapu has his own unique style. Padma Sri ‘Bapu’ first portrays his vision on to a white paper and then brings into visualization. That is the greatness of his work. 'Sri Rama Rajyam' movie titles is one such example of Bapu garu’s tremendous artistry. Bapu also mentioned that he was inspired from the Hindi movie 'Rama Rajya (1943)' when naming this movie’s title. And, the movie was first released in Telugu and later dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam. It is well received in the other languages as well.

After Bapu garu, the next key role in this song is none other than the Maestro himself. Ilayaraja is the only living legend who time and again proves that he is no less than any music directors of the golden era of south Indian film music. This song is one such composition which remains everlasting. And, this song is also the opening song of many Ilayaraja world tour concerts and S.P.Balu world tour concerts. This is the greatness of this song that all legendary musicians want to kick start their world shows with this masterpiece.

After the titles of the movie 'Sri Rama Rajyam', you can listen to a wonderful classical guitar bit followed by the song 'Jagadananda Karaka' sung by the legends S.P.Balu and Shreya Ghoshal. The perfection of the singing in this particular song shows the experience of the two genius singers. The boldness and telugu diction of the singers immediately indulges you into a traditional feel. Specially to mention, Shreya Ghoshal must be commended for singing this song with such clarity of diction in Telugu, though she does not speak this language.

As for the movie situation, Sri Rama is back from Vanavaasam and it is Rama's Pattabhishekam. The lyrics of the song are wonderfully written by Jonnavithhula, very appropriate to the song situation. This complete album songs were written by Jonnavithhula. And easily, this album is considered as one of the best albums written by Jonnavithhula garu. The first few lines itself takes you to the perfect situation of the song. It is written as

Jagadananda karaka jaya janaki prana nayaka
subha swagatham priya paripalaka
mangalakaramav nee raka dharmaniki vedhika avugaka
maa jeevaname eka pavanamavgaka

The first line of this song is taken from the Pancharatna Kriti 'Jagadananda Karaka' and the rest of the song was written by Jonnavittula. This movie song is composed in ‘Suddha Dhanyasi’ raagam. The other thing to note is the beautiful orchestration in the prelude that brings out a ‘grand visual’ feeling of Sri Rama’s pattabhishekam. Maestro used the instruments like his signature Classical Guitar, Table, electrical keyboard and other instruments to bring this outstanding composition. As per the situation, Ilayaraja also used many chorus bits to show that people around Lord Rama are happily singing for Rama’s return.

The grandness in direction, depth of composition, wonderful lyrics and brilliant singing all combine to produce this evergreen classic ‘Jagadananda Karaka’. The great Bapu garu is no longer with us, but his work lives in every Telugu movie/music lover’s home. No one can ever replace Bapu garu. He is a true jewel in the crown of Telugu cinema and we are lucky to have been part of his era.
