In April 2026, Telugu Cinema did not see a single big film release, and audiences did not turn up to watch the smaller films on offer. Many thought the April 30th release of Ram Charan's Peddi would set the box office on fire and help theaters survive the drought. However, the movie has been postponed to June 4th.
When it comes to May, Gayapadda Simham and Jet Lee were released on the first of the month. While these movies created a buzz, they failed to live up to expectations. However, Suriya's long-delayed Karuppu released in Telugu as Veerabhadra, and while it did not completely sweep audiences away, it is helping theaters survive.
After 13 years, Suriya is enjoying a complete box office blockbuster. While the makers are claiming that the movie has already crossed Rs. 200 crores, trade circles state that it is still on its way to reaching that mark and the numbers are being inflated. Keeping that factor aside, the movie is genuinely performing well.
In Tamil Nadu, it has created a storm, and in the Telugu states, it is consistently bringing in audiences. Naga Vamsi, the producer of Suriya's next film, Vishwanath & Sons, can breathe a big sigh of relief and hope for a better turnout from the first weekend. Telugu state theater owners will now be hoping that Peddi genuinely creates a big wave at the ticket windows upon its release.
Looking ahead, Akhil's Lenin, Nani's The Paradise, and Chiranjeevi's Vishwambhara (if released) are ready to provide major relief post-Peddi in the monsoon season. As the summer season ends with no film gaining massive revenue, theater owners are thankful to Veerabhadra and Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 for pulling in decent crowds.
