SS Rajamouli is gearing up for one of the biggest schedules of his upcoming film Varanasi. The filmmaker is reportedly set to commence filming a massive battle sequence from July 7 at a specially constructed set in Hyderabad, with nearly 3,500 junior artists expected to take part in the shoot.
Although the sequence is set in Varanasi, the makers have recreated the city's landscape on an elaborate set in Hyderabad. The schedule is said to be one of the most ambitious portions of the film, involving large-scale action choreography, extensive crowd management and elaborate production planning.
The update comes after Rajamouli recently revealed that the film's major IMAX-specific action episodes had already been completed. The upcoming schedule is expected to be another key milestone in the production of the much-awaited globe-trotting adventure.
Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran playing pivotal characters. Rajamouli has previously described the film as a standalone epic featuring a Ramayana-inspired narrative, making it one of the most anticipated Indian films currently under production.
While the makers are yet to officially confirm details of the battle sequence, the reported scale of the shoot has already created excitement among fans. With thousands of junior artists, an elaborate Varanasi set and Rajamouli's trademark vision, the sequence is expected to be one of the biggest highlights of the film.
