Yash is winning praise for his screen presence in Ravana Thandava, the latest musical release from Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. However, A.R. Rahman’s composition has received a mixed response, with listeners divided over the song’s tune despite appreciating the visuals and Yash’s commanding portrayal of Ravana.
The makers released the song late on October 20, coinciding with international timings and the Dussehra festivities. The song showcases Ravana’s devotion to Lord Shiva through an intense Tandava sequence, with Yash’s expressions, physicality and imposing screen presence emerging as major talking points. Vishal Dadlani has lent his voice to the song, while Dr. Kumar Vishwas has penned the lyrics. The film’s soundtrack is composed by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
Listeners who heard the complete song have described it as another slow poison from Rahman, suggesting that the composer’s music often reveals its deeper layers when experienced alongside the film’s visuals. However, others believe the tune lacks the impact expected from such a grand sequence. Some have even compared it with Adipurush, remarking that Ramayana’s visuals look top-notch, but the music of Prabhas’ Adipurush would have suited these visuals better.
With opinions divided over the composition, the song has generated discussion rather than unanimous appreciation. Yash’s screen presence, meanwhile, appears to be winning over viewers, adding to the anticipation surrounding his portrayal of the Lankan king.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman alongside Yash as Ravana, Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra, with Yash co-producing it through Monster Mind Creations. The film also features an ambitious visual effects effort from DNEG and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
The makers have also opened advance bookings for the film across India and the movie is scheduled for 5th November release worldwide. Even though, the response appears to be mixed, Ravana Thandav song has proved that the ambitious visual scale of the film is complimented by extreme efforts of actors. We have to wait and see, how everything translates on the big screens.
