Ajay Devgn's Raid came into news even in Telugu States with the remake attempt by Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja with Harish Shankar's Mr. Bachchan. The remake became a huge disaster and now, sequel for the movie, Raid 2 has released on 1st May. While the movie has Riteish Deshmukh starring in prominent leading role in this one, it also featured Tamannaah Bhatia's item song as well. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

Amay Patnaik IRS (Ajay Devgn) gets transferred to Bhoj due to the allegations of corruption after 7 years of the first film events. He targets Union Cabinet Minister Manohar Dhankar aka Dada Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh), an influential politician. It is his 75th raid and he starts collecting evidences against him.

But Dada Bhai is not an easy target as he has huge following in public equalling to God. He has a big welfare trust on his mother's name and very big name among public as a dedicated servant. His mother Amma (Supriya Pathak) believes in his goodness and Amay fails to find anything against him. What will he do? How will he catch him? Watch the film to know more.

Analysis:

The movie tries to balance the commerical aspects with the content this time around a bit too much. It tries to deviate from the first one even in filmmaking style and tone. While the first one had few commercial elements they all have been included within the screenplay and Raid focused on the dynamica of an IT Raid, in a grounded manner. But the second movie tried to focus more on twists and turns involving more investigation than Raid.

It is almost like a cop investigating crimes against an influential politician rather than a Raid. While the attempt to make a commercial thriller is applaudable, the movie fails to really keep the happenings grounded. The twists keep getting unrealistic and we see the subject deviating from the original movie tone. The writing and execution are good enough to keep us hooked yet the things are more incomprehensible as we proceed.

As per performances, Ajay Devgn sleep walked through the role. Like Akshay Kumar, even Ajay seems to be more or less trying to complete his commitment for the movie rather than really being involved in the character. Still, he did give a compelling performance but we expect more from him in this kind of a thriller. RIteish Deshmukh is good but he is asked to be a bit too serious. Screenplay could have been better in establishing his character and other situations as well.

Amit Trivedi back ground score is good and Raj Kumar Gupta again delivered an engaging film. Still, the movie needed to be much more focused on the script. Tamannaah Bhatia, Saurabh Shukla, Yashpal Sharma could have been used better as well. While the shortcomings are completely apparent, the movie does deliver an engaging experience. The makers could have worked being more true to the story rather than just twists.

Bottomline:

The movie is watchable yet doesn't really deliver on expectations from the first.

Rating: 2.5/5
