Sekhar Kammula has an unique way of narrating any story with real characters and circumstances. With Dhanush and King Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna in leading roles, he made a financial thriller Kuberaa, on a large canvas. The movie is released today and let's discuss about it in detail.
Plot:
Neeraj Mithra (Jim Sarbh), a multi-billionaire gets a tip about pure crude oil and natural gas on the coast of Tamil Nadu. He immediately plans to take over the contract and influences Union Minister to privatise the oil rig. For this contract, he has to plan a Hawala scam to transfer Rs.1 Lakh crores to various MPs. He finds a honest CBI officer, who is facing the wrath of a politician, Deepak (Nagarjuna) to complete the transaction.
Deepak plans to hire beggars and open shell companies on their name to use them to transfer the movie from foreign countries. He finds Deva (Dhanush) from Tirupathi along with three others from various locations. He and his team train them but Neeraj decides to kill them after the transaction. Will Deepak let them be killed? Will Deva survive and uno reverse the scam? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Dhanush has given his career best performance as a beggar in this film. Shedding out all sort of star baggage, he showcased his acting skills and mesmerise us to believe that he is a beggar. King Nagarjuna took a different role from his routine and he delivered a very honest performance. He also sheds all his starry baggages in the role and it fits him well.
Rashmika Mandanna is good in the limited scope and Jim Sarbh delivered a very good performance. All others leave a mark but they did not get much to do, either. The movie takes off well and does bring realistic perspective to the story of financial scams. Each and every scene adds to the drama.
While the first hour impresses us, the second half starts to drag with predictable run. Still, the narrative keeps us booked to see how the resolution will be achieved and what will be the final solution. Pre-climax and climax portions don't really stand up to the drama built till the moment, hence, it looses the impact that had been established till that point.
Devi Sri Prasad delivered one of his career best works for this film. He kept giving something fresh in every scene and his work is remarkable. Editing by Karthika Srinivas and Cinematography could have better but they did their best in the first half to create the realistic vibe. Overall, the movie due to the drag in the second hour falls flat despite good production values and technical brilliance to an extent.
Bottomline:
Kuberaa works to all an extent with draggy and lethargic narrative in second hour.
Rating: 2.75/5
