Vishwak Sen has proven his directorial capabilities in films like Falaknuma Das, Das ki Dhamki and now, after several disappointments, he came up with a slasher action film, Cult. The movie released on 30th October promising to give a new-age experience to audiences. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

A movie producer (KV Anudeep) sends three youngsters to Goa to learn about life and experience crime. He wants a good crime story and hence, he thinks this experience will help them. Goa Home Minister (Murli Sharma)'s son Elvin (Tarak Ponnappa) decides to throw a party on his birthday, even though his father opposes it.

DSP Sankalp (Vishwak Sen) aka Sanki works against drug mafia in Goa and he enters into the party suspecting drug peddling. But a cult gang takes over and they start killing randomly. They force everyone to participate and brutally kill. Why? What will Sanki do to save them? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Vishwak Sen performs well in the character but his portions are limited. The first 40 minutes are literal bore as the characters and set up don't really work. While The scenes featuring him are good still, they fail to evoke the similar feeling or high they have intended.

BGM by Ravi Basrur is good and he tried to enhance all the sequences. But the action portions and sequences don't really work as anticipated. Each scene looks repetitive after a point and ideas keep repeating at places. But as they try some different ideas the killings get repetitive and that drops the momentum.

After a point, the screenplay feels lethargic with story not moving forward. Technically, few scenes work out but largely they did not really contribute. Overall, the movie tries a slasher genre but fails to deliver due to loopholes in writing.

Positives:

Vishwak Sen performance

Ravi Basrur score

Negatives:

Lethargic Screenplay

Repetitive Narrative

Action scenes feel too long

Oners don't help.

Bottomline: Ambition is visible but execution is lacking!

Rating: 2/5
