Many users trolled the actress for her stiff movements and lack of facial expressions, with one viral comment joking that she turned the sacred art form of "Bharatanatyam into Bharta." People called the performance robotic and accused her of disrespecting a 2000-year-old cultural legacy. Even prominent figures weighed in on the controversy. 

Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed tweeted that Ananya "killed" her favorite dance form, while acclaimed classical dancer Anita Ratnam remarked that it looked like Bharatanatyam was being "held hostage." As the trolling intensified, several users began sharing clips of Sai Pallavi from Shyam Singha Roy and Sridevi from Jaag Utha Insan to show how classical dance should actually be performed on screen.

However, a few fans defended Ananya, pointing out that in the context of the film, the scene was meant to be an amateur college cultural fusion rather than a pure, professional classical recital. Directed by Vivek Soni, Chand Mera Dil stars Ananya opposite Lakshya and was released in theaters on May 22.
