Ameer Log arrives in theaters promising an authentic story about Hyderabad's youth. With good buzz from its promotions and premieres, let's discuss how the movie fares.
Plot:
Srinu (Hari Munnangi), Rafiq (Manoj Aavula), and Mallesh (Shashidhar Kotcharla Kota) are childhood friends from an Old City basti. Though jobless and wandering aimlessly, they are innocent and good-hearted. Geetha (Veda Jalandhar), a software employee living in their area, is like a caring older sister to them.
Geetha is in love with her team leader Ravi (Ravan Nitturu). However, when Ravi does a major injustice to the three friends, Geetha breaks up with him. Why did Ravi wrong these jobless youths, and how do they deal with it? Watch the movie to find out.
Analysis:
Even though the core story is simple, the movie runs smoothly with an engaging screenplay that never feels boring. The body language and dialogues of the characters feel incredibly natural. The first half easily pulls you into their world, highlighted by great character introductions, authentic gully boy moments, and fun cricket sequences.
The interval and second half take a compelling turn, though the main conflict where the friends revolt against Ravi could have been presented stronger. The pre-climax and climax are handled well.
The performances are a major highlight. Newcomers Hari, Manoj, and Shashidhar perfectly justify their roles, acting with the ease of seasoned professionals. Veda delivers a decent performance as Geetha, while the supporting cast does well within their limits.
Director Ramana Reddy Soma succeeds well in his execution, though he could have focused a bit more on dialogues and entertainment. The editing is crisp and a big plus. While the production values are basic, the music and songs feel remarkably fresh and elevate the film.
Positives:
Lead actors' performances
Engaging screenplay
Fresh songs
Direction
Negatives:
Underutilized scope for entertainment
Conflict establishment could be stronger
Basic production and cinematography values
Bottomline:
A simple, honest, and decently engaging tale of innocent Hyderabad basti boys.
Rating: 2.75/5
