Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma opened in theatres on Friday, October 2, with his family turning up to support him on the big day. Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam and daughter Divya Sasha made a rare public appearance as they arrived at Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas for an early screening of the film.

Videos from the theatre showed Sangeetha and Divya making their way inside, with Sangeetha acknowledging photographers. Jason Sanjay was also seen accompanying his mother and sister at the theatre. Following the screening, an emotional moment between Jason and his mother, as the two hugged amid cheers, was captured on camera.

The appearance has drawn attention given how rarely Sangeetha and Divya are seen in public. Recent reports have also focused on developments surrounding Vijay and Sangeetha’s relationship, although neither has publicly confirmed the reports surrounding their marriage. Sangeetha’s appearance at Sigma keeps the focus, however, on her support for her son as he begins his journey as a filmmaker.

Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah, marks Jason Sanjay’s debut as a writer-director. The young filmmaker had earlier said that Vijay would not be involved in the film’s promotions, as he wanted the attention to remain on the movie rather than his father’s star status. At the film’s promotional event, Jason thanked his mother, father and sister for their support.
