Telangana High Court gives a big shock to TFI
on Jan 20, 2026

The Telangana High Court has delivered a significant ruling regarding the regulation of cinema ticket pricing within the state. This legal intervention arose during a hearing centered on the ticket price hikes implemented for the upcoming film The Raja Saab. The court's decision aims to bring transparency and long-term planning to the process of adjusting admission rates for high-budget cinematic releases.
Under the new directive, the court has mandated that any future proposals for ticket price increases must be finalized well in advance. Specifically, the High Court directed that any such hikes must be decided at least 90 days prior to a film’s scheduled release. This timeline is intended to ensure that pricing adjustments are not made at the last minute, providing more predictability for both the audience and the regulatory bodies.
The court emphasized that this procedure must be followed strictly in accordance with the Telangana Cinemas Regulation Act, 1955. By grounding the decision in existing legislation, the court seeks to standardize the application process for producers seeking special permissions. This ruling is expected to influence how major production houses approach their financial strategies and release windows in the Telangana market moving forward.
This ruling comes as a huge shock for Telugu Film Industry as big films tend to take time to complete due to various production and post production delays. The Court ruling now insists of the films to be completed 90 days before release almost 90-95%, so that they can be sure about the date. While this gives order that big films desparately needs but this a huge letdown as well, as the makers have got accustomed to wait till last minute to complete their process and finish it in last minute.
Peddi, The Paradise and Vishwambhara who might be set for Summer release, might have to rush for applying to hikes already but they won't be getting hikes as release date is fixed but it is not set in stone that the films will complete by the time. Let's wait and see how they will address these issues going forward.
