Veteran actor Rajesh Sharma has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata after suffering a serious health scare while shooting for an upcoming Prabhas-starrer at Ramoji Film City. The actor reportedly developed a severe infection, high fever and breathing difficulties following what is believed to be an insect or poisonous spider bite on the film's sets.
According to a statement issued by actress Sudipa Chatterjee and filmmaker Agnidev Chatterjee, the incident took place after the day's shoot had wrapped up. Rajesh Sharma was interacting with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation when he felt something bite his leg. As the bite initially appeared harmless, he did not seek immediate medical attention and continued with his schedule.
However, nearly six hours later, the actor's condition worsened. He experienced severe pain in his right leg before developing a high fever during his flight to Kolkata. After landing, he was immediately admitted to a private hospital, where doctors found that the infection had rapidly spread from his toes to his knee, causing large blisters. He is also being monitored for breathing difficulties and possible complications, including the risk of blood clots.
The statement added that doctors are closely observing Rajesh Sharma and are yet to make a definitive assessment of his condition. Family members have thanked fans, the media, the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists' Forum and actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who has reportedly been extending continuous support during this difficult time.
Rajesh Sharma is one of India's most respected character actors, known for his work across Hindi and Bengali cinema. News of his hospitalization has prompted an outpouring of prayers and well wishes from colleagues and fans, who are hoping for his speedy recovery and return to the sets soon.
