Lokesh Kanagaraj has earned a huge following across Telugu states and Tamil Nadu, as one of the best directors. He showcased a penchant to be an actor by playing small roles in his films. Now, he debuted as a full-fledged actor with DC. Arun Matheswaran who made Rocky, Captain Miller directed this film with Wamiqa Gabbi as leading lady. Anirudh Ravichander's music elevated buzz for the film and it released in theatres, Today. Let's discuss about the film, in detail.

Plot: 

Devadas (Lokesh Kanagaraj), who went to jail after killing his uncles who brutally murdered his mother stays away from his father. He joins a gang of Arasu, who was a police officer turned naxalite. He ambushes police vehicle for weapons and finds out the atrocities committed by them. He decides to kill the corrupt police official for establishing justice but he finds himself at war with entire department. 

In the meantime, he falls in love with Parvathy (Sanjana), a bar singer, and even though they don't know that the relationship has no future, they do find attracted to each other. Unfortunately, police in the pursuit of him, kills her. He decides to take revenge and escapes from jail. While eliminating the bar owner who tipped off to police, he meets a prostitute Chandra (Wamiqa Gabbi). What happens next? Watch the movie to know more. 

Analysis: 

Lokesh Kanagaraj is a competent actor and he proves that he is believable in action space. He handles emotional portions decently well. Maybe he is more natural with action than other emotions. Wamiqa Gabbi is good until he tries to deliver dramatic monologues. Her expressions are good and her screen presence adds to the film. Sanjana Krishnamoorthy is apt for Parvathy and her beauty, portions with Lokesh shine. All others are adequate in their performances. 

Arun Matheswaran has a filmmaker is unconventional and his framing is attractive. Only problem lies in his staging of few scenes and repetitive ideas in screenplay. He established brilliantly in the first half and excelled with his visual storytelling in the Parvathy portions. But the predictability in the screenplay does hamper his ambition to set the re-adapt classical Devdas tale in a world of Bonnie and Clyde. 

The ideas needed to be more refreshing as the investigation progresses and at times, for feel he seems to spend more time on ideas that end up being repetitive. Anirudh Ravichander goes a brilliant job in understanding the idea behind the director's vision and he uses fusion in his score to mix classical and western. His work standsout. Cinematography is good at places framing could have been tighter. 

Editing needed to be even better as some shots stretch at places more than they should. Overall, the action packed Devdas version is satisfactory but not a tale for everyone. People who love to see gore and brutal violence on screen can give it a try. The movie does offer a clever twist to tale of Devdas by pointing at how rebellion can be misjudged and power can be misguided.

Bottomlime: DC offers a decent watchable experience but only for action lovers.
