With Nagabandham gearing up for its worldwide release and lead actor Virat Karrna has opened up about the physically and emotionally demanding journey behind the ambitious fantasy adventure. Calling the film a "gift from director Abhishek Nama and Lord Shiva," the actor said the project transformed him both as a performer and as a person.
Virat revealed that playing the dual roles of Rudra and a Naga Sadhu in just his second film came with immense responsibility. "Abhishek Nama meticulously transformed me into a diamond," he said, adding that the director's confidence in him helped him overcome the nervousness of leading a massive production with hundreds of technicians on set.
The actor disclosed that the film took a heavy physical toll. He underwent an intense body transformation, gaining nearly 20 kilograms before shedding weight for another look. During training, he suffered a severe muscle tear, while an outdoor schedule in freezing conditions left him with frostbite. Despite the injuries, Virat continued filming, saying his faith in the story and the director's vision kept him motivated.
He also spoke about the extensive preparation that went into the project, praising Abhishek Nama for planning every sequence in advance. According to Virat, every shot was designed meticulously on paper before filming began, allowing the team to execute the film on a grand scale.
To prepare for the spiritual dimension of his character, Virat said he visited a Shiva temple every day to perform Abhishekam before shooting and later observed the sacred Shiva Mala. He believes those experiences helped him connect deeply with the role.
Confident about the film's prospects, Virat confirmed that the makers already have plans for a sequel. He also highlighted the use of state-of-the-art VFX and expressed confidence that audiences would embrace the film's vision. Produced by Nishitha Nagireddy and Kishore Annapureddy on a reported budget of ₹110 crore, Nagabandham has recorded encouraging advance bookings ahead of its July 3 release.
