Superstar Rajinikanth used the launch event of Dharman to make a subtle but noticeable comment on the criticism and controversies surrounding him in recent weeks.
Speaking at the event, Rajinikanth said, “If I don’t speak, people start trolling me saying he is not speaking. If I speak, people twist my words and change the meaning to create controversies. For people who don’t like us, whatever we say becomes an issue. But it is foolish to think people who like us will support us in everything. So, we should always be careful.”
While Rajini did not directly mention any particular incident, his comments come after social media discussions intensified over him not immediately congratulating Tamil Nadu CM Vijay after he assumed office. The conversations gained more attention after Rajinikanth later met former CM Stalin, leading to online speculation and rumours about political equations and even claims that he was trying to mediate a possible understanding between DMK and AIADMK.
The trolling and narratives reportedly became so intense that Rajinikanth addressed the issue separately at a press interaction earlier. Interestingly, he chose to begin his Dharman launch speech with the same thought process — suggesting that after decades in public life, Rajini still believes every word spoken by a public figure comes with responsibility and scrutiny.
