Legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao returned to direction after nearly a decade with Sing Geetham, and the story behind the film appears to be as unique as its concept. At 94, the veteran filmmaker finally brought to life an idea that stayed with him for close to 40 years.
Singeetham revealed that he always wanted to make a film where conversations are not spoken conventionally but sung throughout the narrative. While inspired by Broadway musicals, he wanted to create an Indian film where every emotion and every exchange flowed through music, as Indian films are always musicals that break into songs.
Despite not being physically present on sets, the director remained involved in every stage of production. He shared that Nag Ashwin created an entire remote setup that allowed him to watch the shoot live from his home theatre and direct scenes in real time.
Singeetham credited Nag Ashwin for taking complete ownership of the project and making sure the vision remained intact throughout production. He also appreciated producers Ashwini Dutt, Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt for backing an unconventional idea with passion rather than approaching it with routine calculations.
With Sing Geetham receiving appreciation from audiences for its experimental storytelling, the film becomes another feather in the illustrious cap of accomplishments of Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, who continues to prove that new ideas have no age limit.
