Matt Reeves has clarified that he is not leaving The Batman Part II after reports emerged that Steven Soderbergh would step in to help complete the film’s principal photography. The filmmaker took to X to address concerns about his involvement in the highly anticipated sequel, revealing that Soderbergh has come forward to help him during a challenging period.
“Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes,” Reeves wrote.
The clarification comes after The Batman Part II temporarily paused production earlier this month as Reeves stepped away to attend to a family matter. With the filmmaker unable to continue working on the set for the time being, Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has offered to oversee the remaining weeks of principal photography.

According to reports, Soderbergh approached Reeves himself, with DC Studios extending its full support for the arrangement. Soderbergh has also made it clear that his objective is to work with Reeves and his team to ensure the new footage integrates seamlessly with the material already shot, preserving the original filmmaker’s vision.
Starring Robert Pattinson as Batman, the sequel also features returning cast members Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell, alongside newcomers Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. After multiple delays,
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to arrive in theatres on February 18, 2028. Reeves’ latest statement makes it clear that Soderbergh’s involvement is intended to help complete filming rather than signal a permanent departure from the project.
