Sumanth is gearing up for the release of Mahendragiri Varahi, a devotional supernatural thriller that has generated curiosity with its teaser and trailer. The film has now completed its censor formalities with a U/A certificate and is scheduled to hit theatres on September 11.

What makes the film interesting is its contemporary protagonist. Sumanth plays a YouTuber who investigates superstitions and questions the existence of God. While the film has been compared with Murari because of certain elements surrounding a curse, Sumanth has clarified that the core story is entirely different and is deeply rooted in Vedas, Puranas and Indian mythology.

The film reportedly took shape well before the recent rise in devotional cinema. Sumanth revealed that he has been associated with the project for nearly three years, suggesting that its subject was not developed as a response to the current trend. Director Santhossh Jagarlapudi’s knowledge of mythology appears to be central to the screenplay.
