Varahi Mallipamula has written this movie's story few years back and tried to find producers but finally, she produced it herself. The Indian Telugu International English film, Impure, released today and let's discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Sandhya (Yashna Muthuluri) gets rejected by groom's family on the wedding day, because of her past relationship. She admits it to getting intimate with her ex and social stigma follows her as her cousin, Veera (Varahi Mallipamula) posts this on social media for likes. Sandhya gets desperate to find a match and end the nightmare.
Her parents start finding suitable match but the societal judgement keeps failing her and their attempts. Veera, on the other hand, feels regret but gets likes and finds different hobbies to keep herself occupied as her husband turns out to be homosexual. Pranav (Sai Krishna), their friend, tries to become an actor moving to Hyderabad but struggles follow. What happens to these three people forms rest of the story!
Analysis:
Yashna Muthuluri shows potential as a performer and her eyes spark when she emotes. She has the talent and skills to become a good actor. Rest of all others performances except for people who played parents are just too dull. Even Varahi Mallipamula lacks any screen presence.
The movie tries to be about three lives that try to find validation in their own respective ways. But the problem lies in the triggering point of each one realising when to take their lives in their hands and the journey towards.

While it is a satire on how patriarchy is normalised it also doesn't really realise about how freedom is being seen though the same lens in the script, too. Absolute freedom lies in not finding validation or doing things for oneself either, it is about "choosing the right path" when easy way outs and cope outs are laid all around you.
The point doesn't come across as much as it wants toaje it all about women's voice and empowerment. When a lady trying to speak about what women lack and narrows everything to one or two choices, it ends up being shallow. How broader the theme is that broader the depth in writing needed to be.
Positives:
Yashna Muthuluri performance
Basic theme
Few one-liners in the first ten minutes
Negatives:
Lack of cohesive depth
Unrelenting usage of English and Telugu mixed lines
Going over repetitive in second hour
Script needed more sharp writing.
Bottomline: Few Good ideas but none land cohesively.
Rating: 2.25/5
