"Court" Beats Baahubali And Srimanthudu
on Sep 23, 2015
Debutant director Chaitanya Tamhane's Marathi film "Court" has beaten the likes of "Baahubali" and "Srimanthudu" to become India's official entry to the Oscar nominations. Film Federation of India has today declared that for its sheer brilliance in content, they have selected an art-house cinema like "Court" for Oscar nominations.
Being a court-room drama, "Court" was premiered at many film festivals and it won 18 awards including the Best Film in the Horizons category and the Luigi De Laurentiis (Lion Of The Future) award for Tamhane at 71st Venice Film Festival. Telugu films like "Baahubali" and "Srimanthudu" are watched by the jury, but they don't find a place for the Top 10 films selected for final screening.
Srimanthudu's commercial content and Baahubali's extravaganza with nothing new in terms of story-telling, don't stand a chance to get entry for Oscars.
