Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is turning into one of the biggest Onam success stories of the year. The Girish A.D. directorial has already crossed the Rs.128 crore gross mark worldwide after its first week, with trade estimates indicating that the film is maintaining strong momentum even after the opening phase. Independent trackers have reported Rs.128.05 crore worldwide, including Rs.61.05 crore from India and Rs.67 crore from overseas.
What makes the run particularly impressive is the film’s sustained performance in Kerala. The movie has crossed the Rs.50 crore net milestone in India, while Kerala alone is approaching the Rs.50 crore gross mark in reported trade figures. Day 7 also showed excellent growth, with the film recording its strongest weekday performance and keeping theatres busy going into the second weekend.
With Saturday and Sunday bookings looking strong, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is tracking towards a second-weekend worldwide total in the Rs.160-165 crore range. The Friday trend is also encouraging, giving the film a clear shot at crossing the Rs.75 crore gross mark in Kerala by the end of Sunday. Theatre listings show the film retaining multiple shows through the weekend, underlining the demand despite the arrival of competing releases.
The success is now encouraging the makers to widen the film’s reach. The Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions are officially scheduled to release in theatres on September 4, with Future Runup Films distributing them across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There are also plans to explore a Hindi version, which could further extend the film’s theatrical run beyond the Malayalam market.
