Phanindra Narisetty created a good impression for himself with a short film, Madhuram. Later, he made a full length feature Manu, which did not work at the box office. But he impressed people with his technical brilliance and writing abilities. Now, he made 8 Vasanthalu with Anantika Sanilkumar in the leading role. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:
Shuddhi Ayodhya (Anantika Sanilkumar) is a highly talented writer, who wrote a self-help book at the age of 17 years. She learns Martial Arts and treats her Guru as God. As he is undergoing cancer treatment, she fears of she can take black belt before his death. But he encourages her to write another book without worrying about him.

Varun (Hanu Reddy) challenges her at the dojo and then falls for her. He pursues her and she accepts his love. But due to his father's ambition to see him join Berkeley School of Music, he takes an easy route out and ditches her. Years later, she finds writer Sanjay (Ravi Theja) and falls in love with him, due to his deep thoughts and respect towards women. Will Sanjay also fall for her? Will Varun return? Watch the movie to the answers.

Analysis:
Phanindra Narisetty has strong visual sense in staging a scene but at the same time his blocking and detailing of a shot lack the similar clarity. He used color theory and nature to symbolically narrate the story but his effort is undermined by his writing. The metaphors to state the character motivations look very childish.

Each and every character tends to speak like him rather than them. You.csn accept one person having such sort of maturity or ideology but not everyone. Even if we not consider that part of the dialogues, all seem to stretch more than welcome. Nothing seems like a normal conversation between normal people.

The relatability to characters and the make belief of looking at real people in a whirlpool of Love is missing from this film. To create a poetic feel, the director has decided to go more surrealistic approach for even normal scenes. Mani Ratnam kind of directors keep the conversation real and relatable but here poetic sense, metaphors are just too much to even connect.

Performances wise Ananthika Sanilkumar, Hanu Reddy impress among everyone. All others seem to either lack capabilities or asked to act in just one way. Even Ananthika looks inconsistent in her performance but she evolved throughout.

Technically, sound design and cinematography are good while music by Hesham Abdul Wahab is heart of the film. Production values of Mythri Movie Makers are sound but the film feels too lethargic with narrative dragging in the name of "feel" and "effect".

Bottomline:
Not so memorable and highly passable "8 Years"!

Rating: 2.5/5
