One of Bollywood's most celebrated films, 3 Idiots, is all set to return to the big screen. The Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi-starrer has been scheduled for a nationwide re-release on September 4, 2026, nearly 17 years after its original release. The move comes after NH Studioz acquired the distribution rights to a major catalogue of films from Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films in a landmark three-figure crore deal.
According to reports, the acquisition includes several acclaimed titles such as Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, Mission Kashmir, PK, Sanju, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Wazir, Shikara and 3 Idiots. The deal significantly strengthens NH Studioz's library, which already features thousands of film titles across multiple Indian languages.
Interestingly, 3 Idiots will return to cinemas during the Teachers' Day weekend, making the release particularly fitting given the film's memorable take on the Indian education system and student life. The re-release also coincides with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra's birthday on September 5, adding another layer of significance to the occasion.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots remains one of Indian cinema's biggest blockbusters and continues to enjoy immense popularity among audiences of all ages. Its return to theatres follows the growing trend of successful re-releases, with classic films finding renewed appreciation from both nostalgic fans and younger moviegoers eager to experience them on the big screen.
The announcement comes at a time when anticipation is also building around 3 Idiots 2. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra had previously confirmed that a sequel is in development, making the re-release an ideal opportunity to rekindle audience excitement for one of Bollywood's most loved film to be a franchise.
