According to sources, there was a rift between director Bala and star Suriya during the filming of Suriya 41, which caused the project to be halted halfway through.

Surya, who has starred in two blockbuster hit films directed by Bala, Nanda and Pithamagan, is presently collaborating for the third time with Surya 41. Krithi Shetty co-stars with Surya in the film. Music is being composed by GV Prakash for the film, which is being co-produced by Surya and Jyotika under the banner of 2D Entertainments.

For the last month, the first phase of the film, which focuses on the issues encountered by fisherman, has been shooting in Kanyakumari. Surya and Keerthi Shetty, both actors, attended. During the filming, a rift developed between Bala and Suriya, and rumours began to circulate.

Raja Sekhar Pandian, co-producer, said that there was no rift on set and that the first schedule of 34 days in Kanyakumari was finished smoothly and efficiently. The following schedule of 15 days 2 would begin in June after extensive set work.
