Fawad Khan and and Ayushmann Khurrana were approached initially for the role of the police officer in Udtha Punjab but they turned it down. It later went on to the Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh, who will be making his Bollywood debut with this movie. The role was small and did not get as much recognition as Shahid Kapoor‘s role in the film.
