Shah Rukh Khan has taken another giant step in expanding the Knight Riders brand across the world. While the superstar has already established successful franchises in India, the Caribbean, UAE and the USA, he has now added another landmark achievement by inaugurating the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Los Angeles. More importantly, the venue has hosted its first-ever Major League Cricket match, making it a historic day for both the franchise and cricket in the United States.
Located at Fairplex in Pomona, California, the newly-built venue is the first international-standard cricket stadium established by a global cricket franchise. It serves as the home ground for the Los Angeles Knight Riders and has been built with world-class infrastructure, including eight wickets on the main square, ICC-standard playing dimensions and six 120-foot floodlight towers. The stadium is also expected to play a key role in cricket's return to the Olympics at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Sharing his excitement, Shah Rukh Khan said, "What started as a dream has become a reality today. Bringing cricket, the second most-watched sport in the world, to Los Angeles is a landmark moment for all of us." He added that the venue is much more than just a cricket ground, describing it as a place built for sport, entertainment, families and memories that would inspire future generations of players and fans.
Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore described the stadium as a statement of intent for the future of cricket, saying it reflects the group's belief that the game's growth must be supported by world-class infrastructure. The inaugural Major League Cricket fixture saw the Los Angeles Knight Riders take on Washington Freedom, while former NBA star Metta World Peace bowled the ceremonial first ball, symbolising cricket's growing connection with mainstream American sport.
Over the years, Shah Rukh Khan has transformed the Knight Riders from being just an IPL franchise into one of the biggest global cricket brands. The inauguration of the Knight Riders Cricket Ground marks another milestone in that journey, underlining his long-term vision of taking cricket to newer markets and making the sport a truly global phenomenon.
