Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty has secured significant legal relief after a special NDPS court in Mumbai ordered the unfreezing of her bank accounts. These accounts, which are jointly held with her brother Showik and mother Sandhya, were originally frozen by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020. The freeze was part of a broader investigation into an alleged drug syndicate that emerged following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.  

The legal breakthrough came when the defense team pointed out a major procedural lapse by the investigating agency. Under Section 68F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, any move to freeze financial assets must be officially confirmed by a competent authority within 30 days. Special Judge U.C. Deshmukh noted that the NCB failed to secure this mandatory confirmation within the given timeframe, rendering the initial freeze order legally invalid.  

The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the accounts needed to remain frozen due to the actor's alleged connections to a drug network. However, the court prioritized the legal procedure and ruled in favor of the Chakraborty family. They are now officially permitted to resume regular financial transactions and operate their accounts across multiple banks in accordance with standard regulations.
