Tollywood is under the eclipse of dubbing movies that are gaining prominence day by day. And the volume of these dubbing movies are very high that even a small time producer in Telugu cinema is unable to find a theater to release his film.

For the recent Diwali festive season, all the theaters were blocked for movies like Shah Rukh Khan ‘G.One’ and Suriya’s 7th sense. Contrastingly, there’s no Telugu cinema countering these dubbed movie releases. ‘Pilla Zamindar’, a Telugu movie was the worst affected party as both these dubbed movies swept theaters and festive time. What’s more, this is not a new phenomenon Tollywood is expecting but still unable to counter the dubbed movies - be in Hindi, English or Tamil.

The recently release ‘Gambler’, ‘Rangam’, ‘Vaadu Veedu’, ‘Naa Peru Siva’, ‘Kanchana’, ‘Nanna’, ‘Vaccha Geli chaadu’, ‘Vaishali’, etc. hit the marquee within a span of less than 6 months and manage to get great acclamation.  In the last 8 months, more than 70 films have been released out of which 32 films are dubbed movies and these stats are making life increasingly difficult for small time Telugu film producers.

In an era, where all big Telugu heroes are doing one film every year, the dubbed movies are sweeping Telugu cinema market and are trying to expand theit wings to new horizons.  Imagine all this drama taking place in one of the three largest film producers in India – Tollywood.  Tamil heroes like Vikram, Karthi, Vijay, Ajith, etc are all capitalizing on the growing Telugu cinema market potential. As if Tamil and Bollywood (dubbed) movies are not enough, Kannada and Malayala films are also eyeing Telugu film market.(Genelia’s Urumi is one of the classic examples). Besides, the Telugu dubbing rights for all these movies and bought by top Telugu producers and are releasing in Tollywood. Now this is like adding insult to injury. Technicians and artistes are also being roped in from other languages and not local talent. So where does the buck stop?

Should the AP Govt. do something about it? Certainly! In Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Bengal, etc dubbed movies suffer from huge tax obligations. As a result, the volume of dubbed movies are very low. Similarly, AP Govt, should impose stringent regulations on dubbed movies whilst encouraging Telugu films.
